Authorities believe the man was previously denied entry to the establishment and returned with his vehicle to ram the club. Police arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and said several of the injured suffered broken bones but none of the injuries are life-threatening.

Seven of the victims were taken to an area hospital, three of those with serious injuries, according to the ambulance service. The 4x4 vehicle is said to have driven along an alleyway to get to the club. One witness named Chloe Germaney, 18, said she heard a "massive bang" before seeing the vehicle "driving into the club through the gates into the lounge, running people over."

Next, she said security called out for everyone to run. "Everyone ran for their lives back into the club, we got locked in, nobody knew what was going on," Germaney said. "At that point I text my loved ones saying I've been in an incident and that I love them because I thought I wasn't going to make it out alive."

Another witness named Sonny Powar said he witnessed two people get struck by the car during the attack. "(A man) drove his 4x4 into the tent we was all in and ran people over, it stopped at my feet so any further and I could have died then he reversed up and we all ran," Powar said.

"We ripped the tent wall apart and got out and called the police. It was a complete mess of panic and chaos."

Blake's nightclub issued a statement thanking the "heroic actions" of door staff and guests who said they said apprehended the driver "before further harm was caused." The club added, "We strive to create a safe and positive environment for all. Last night, however, the unpredictable actions of one individual ruined a great occasion for all."
