The Norwegian minority coalition government is on the brink of collapse as Justice Minister Ms Sylvi Listhaug was forced to resign today after the scandal surrounding her anti-immigration remarks on Facebook kept resurfacing.
Norway, just as Denmark and Sweden, has been overrun by immigrants in the past few years, causing nationalist and anti-immigration political parties to enter parliament and political newbies to be put in the spotlight.

One of those was the highly controversial Ms Sylvi Listhaug, a member of the populist right-wing Progress Party (FrP), who was bombarded to be the country’s Justice Minister.

Seeking swift punishment for some criminals, she was accused by the opposition of letting emotions rule her cabinet. In response, Ms Listhaug posted on Facebook on 9 March that the leftwing Labour Party seemed to care more about “the rights of terrorists” than the “security of the nation.”
She posted it on top of a photo of the Islamic terrorist group Al-Shabaab.

Not wanting to lose their minister, the Progress Party held several meetings until last week, Ms Listhaug apologized for the post. But that proved not enough for the opposition who demanded a vote in parliament where the government only has a minority.
Prime Minister Erna Solberg of the Conservative Party is now bracing for a no-confidence motion on Tuesday. If she loses the vote, her government will have to resign.
The Norwegian leading newspaper the Local said: “Any vote could put Norway’s minority administration in a bind because its centrists, who have always been critical of Listhaug, would be forced to pick a side.”
