Australian airline Qantas landed in Perth this morning for its maiden direct flight from London. Yes, that’s a 17-hour direct flight between Australia and Europe.
The Australian company uses their new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner which, given that it is twice as fuel-efficient as the Boeing 747, is able to do the 14,500km trip without problems.
Qantas chief Mr. Alan Joyce, who was present during the flight, explained that the success of the Perth-London route would pave the way for direct flights from Perth to Paris in the future: “We do have the rights to fly to Paris daily; we’ve never had those rights before.”

“When we last did Paris it was from Singapore to Paris and it was three a week, and it was hard to make it economically work. So we are keen on it (starting a Perth to Paris route), we are interested in it, but we need to bed this one down first.”

Mr. Joyce said. “It’s off to a great start it’s only the first flight but we need to show that economically it’s going to work out.”

According to the International Air Transport Association, the Perth-London flight immediately becomes the world's second-longest after Qatar Airways' route from Doha to Auckland. There are other carriers, like Emirates and United Airlines who have also already flown non-stop journeys greater than 14,000km.

That's a long time to be on a plane. I hope they loosen up the rules on masturbation.
