What a difference a few weeks makes. Whereas Canadian Prime Minister Mr. Justin Trudeau stated on March 1st when President Donald Trump announced the USA would be imposing a 25 percent tariff on foreign steel and a 10 percent duty on imported aluminum .that such a decision “makes no sense” and was “absolutely unacceptable,” on March 28th that same Mr. Trudeau warns against steel dumping and claims Canada will also impose measures.
In a press release, the Canadian Prime Minister’s Office explained that his government would be bringing forward new regulations to crack down on countries (like China) dumping their steel and aluminum at unfairly cheap prices in foreign markets.

Mr. Trudeau stated that: “Canada is a trading nation, and we will not allow North American industries to be hurt or threatened by unfair trade practices, like the diversion of steel and aluminum.”

“Our businesses and workers rely on our integrated industries, and we will take strong action to defend and protect our most important trade relationships. Canada will not be used as a backdoor into other North American markets. Our people have worked hard to be competitive in this global economy, and they deserve a level playing field.”
