Toronto Chef Taunts Protesting Vegans By Butchering a Deer In Front of Them

Some vegan activists were relentlessly protesting outside a restaurant in Toronto complete with a banner and cameras condemning the eating and butchering of meat over the weekend. It appeared to the chef that the protesters would not leave him in peace to do his thing so he decided to retaliate. He put on a show by going to the restaurant’s glass window, hauling a leg of deer and carving it up for all the activists to see.

A small group of angry vegans assembled outside Antler Kitchen & Bar, a west-end Toronto restaurant. They have become a fixture outside the restaurant with their regular protests and at times Antler responded with a few stunts of their own like pushing their foie gras usage. The restaurant’s chef, Michael Hunter, thought he had enough and decided to beat the activists in their own game by staging his own unique display of counter-protest.

Police officers were observing outside making sure the tension brought by the protests will not escalate into violence. They briefly decided to go inside the restaurant to talk to Hunter about his taunting act of carving a deer’s leg that further infuriates the vegan activists. The authorities quickly came to their senses, however, and realized that as it is his restaurant, and being a chef, Hunter is free to carve meats as he pleases, even if he meant to offend and taunt more the protesters.

The vegans naturally became even more furious. One man said of Hunter: “He’s doing it deliberately to mock and taunt us because we’re vegans. As you can see the owner has brought the leg of a recently murdered animal to the front of the restaurant to taunt the activists.”

There was just no stopping Hunter, however, as he was prepared to complete his act and see it through its logical conclusion. He continued to butcher the said part of the deer, then cut off a good sized hunk of meat. The chef then took the meat and went to the back of his restaurant. When he returned to “the show”’, he had a big plate with just a single chunk of meat cooked to perfection. He didn’t put garnish on it, there were no side dishes of vegetables or bread or anything, simply meat. He took a seat and quickly had a grand time consuming the steak for all the offended eyes of the vegans to see.

Hunter has been avoiding media interviews after his one grand “show” but emphasizes that he’s at a loss why his restaurant is being targeted when they are known in the city for adhering to ethical farming and foraging initiatives.

One of the protesters defended their actions and said they have specifically targeted Antler because it’s a small enterprise that uses ethical meat. They think they stand a better chance of getting their action at a smaller restaurant compared to large chain of restaurants. Vegans also said they do not believe in the concept of ethical meat because it is their sweeping principle that no animal should be killed for humans to eat.
