UK - London Pensioner Who Killed ‘Armed Burglar’ Bailed - ‘He Deserves A Medal’

The public outcry over the arrest of a 78-year-old in London yesterday who had stabbed an armed burglar breaking into his own house was incredible. By this morning, the news that the pensioner had been bailed pending further investigation was met with great cheer by many whilst the newspaper front pages all hailed the man’s right to defend his own home.

Mr Albert Osborn-Brooks apparently lay sleeping in bed with his wife (who suffers from dementia at the age of 76) when two raiders burst in shortly after midnight.

Related coverage:

They marched him into the kitchen of his own house, with one of the criminals carrying a screwdriver. His wife Maureen lay defenseless and completely terrified in her bed, not aware of what was happening. One of them guarded Mr Osborn-Brooks whilst the other started ransacking the house, taking all he could.

Absolute disgrace. The man is a hero. He’s 78 and defending himself and his property. Good on him. One less worthless burglar on the streets. #hero
— PetroL (@UnleadedJunkie) April 4, 2018

At about this time, the pensioner had enough and started to fight off the intruder, stabbing him in the chest with the screwdriver in the process. The burglar later died in hospital and Mr Osborn-Brooks was arrested for murder. After a massive public outcry, he was again released this morning.

His neighbors have rallied round Mr Osborn-Brooks and his wife. On a Facebook page, they wrote: “So this is British justice is it? Where is our protection? The old man deserves a medal and to be let free. Now you know why America has guns.”
