California - Man Detonates "Explosive Device" At Sam's Club

Police say an explosion took place Thursday afternoon in Ontario, California and are investigating at a Sam's Club. The device was detonated around 2:08 p.m. but no injuries were reported. The incident was initially reported as a structure fire when a caller heard a "popping sound" on aisle 4 of Sam's Club in the 900 block of Milliken Avenue.

According to Ontario Police, "It has been determined the suspect detonated a small explosive device in the store. There appears to be no structural damage or any injuries at this point. All employees and customers are accounted for."

"It wasn't like an earth-shaking big explosion," said witness Norman Svikss. "It was like a low sound, like 'boom.' And there's no smoke, nothing. Then the employees start running around and then they slowly said, 'Hey, we have to evacuate the building,' because it's fire or something."

Police also detained a suspect at the scene and said a second explosive was found inside his vehicle although the motive for the crime is unknown.
