Australia - Russell Crowe Auctions Movie Memorabilia For Divorce

Actor Russell Crowe celebrated both his own and his wedding anniversary yesterday and did so by auctioning off most of his movie memorabilia in an auction which carried the rather provocative title ‘the art of the divorce’ in order to settle his separation from his wife of nine years, Ms Danielle Spencer.

Many items sold for a lot more than the expected prices, with the body armour of the movie ‘Gladiator’ fetching some $96,000 for example.

The Australian actor also auctioned off some 29 watches, which included a gold Rolex estimated to be worth $35k.

Mr Crowe: “The first watch that I can remember having was a black on black Swatch.”

“You could say my film career began with a fake Cartier. I wore it until the gold flaked off.”

“Even though it was fake,” he added, “it gave me a lot of confidence.”

The event had expected to bring in some 2 to 3 million Australian dollars for Mr Crowe, to help settle the divorce bills, in the end he left with some 3.7 million, a lot more than expected.

Mr Crowe stated afterwards: “A bunch of stuff I didn’t really want to sell coming home, not a bad hourly rate for a 5 hour shift.”
