Texas Governor Gregg Abbott responded to the call of his citizens and raised the number of National Guard troops that he will deploy at the border to 1,000.
During an interview with radio station KTSA, Mr Abbott stated that: "the goal is to have at least 4,000 deployed here in about a month or two."

Furthermore, Mr Abbott confirmed that the state of Texas would be increasing the number of guardsmen by some 300 per week until "fully staffed up."
At this moment, there are about 250 National Guard troops near the US-Mexico border on the terrain of Texas.

Meanwhile his Republican colleague Ms Susana Martinez of the state of New Mexico said she would also follow US President Trump’s demand and deploy troops.

Even through Ms Martinez has in the past been more critical of POTUS’ approach on issues like immigration, a spokesman for her office confirmed that officials from the New Mexico National Guard have held meetings with federal officials to discuss the operation over the weekend in which it was agreed that her state will also deploy troop.

Mr Larry Behrens, a spokesman for the New Mexico governor’s office, stated: “The safety of all New Mexicans is our first and foremost concern which is why our soldiers will participate in this operation.”
