French President Emmanuel Macron shared videos via his Elyséee (the French presidential palace) twitter account showing the French warplanes taking off for Syria as well as missiles being launched from French warships. He also released a statement on why France had decided to intervene along its allies USA and UK.
Mr Macron said that a “red line which France had set in May 2017 had been crossed” and that the “responsibility of the Syrian regime was doubtless”.
“We cannot tolerate the usage of chemical weapons which are a direct danger for the Syrian people and our collective security.”
"From today, France and its partners will renew their efforts at the UN to allow the establishment of an international mechanism to establish responsibility, prevent impunity and prevent any recurrence by the Syrian regime."

Later this morning, French defence minister Ms Florence Parly informed the press that "We are not looking for a confrontation and refuse any logic of escalation."
"That is why, with our allies, we ensured that the Russians were notified ahead of time."

According to the French intelligence the military action targeted the "main research centre" for Syria's chemical weapons programme as well as "two important production sites".
Mr Macron’s government follows up on the actions of the previous President François Hollande who also stood side by side with the US in 2013 ready to strike Sryia, until then US President Obama backed out of the operation.
