Switzerland – Police Issues Warning To Duck As It Is Flashed Twice For Speeding

It is often said that the level of your national news shows how well your country is doing. Hence, if your national newspaper headlines speak of war and protests, maybe all is not too good.

If your headlines are of a speeding duck, there’s probably not much going on to worry over.

The latter is the case for wealthy alpine country Switzerland where many local newspapers have today plastered their front page with the picture of a duck that was flashed by a speeding camera in the southern western town of Koniz, just next to Bern.

The camera first picked up the offender earlier this week when it was flying at low altitude at some 13.5 miles per hour over the allowed speed limit. Three days later, the camera snapped him again. Police jokingly said they did not know whether it was the same offender as their automatic camera did not set a brand of car with the picture taken.

The police statement read: "The duck was traveling in a low-altitude flight at 52 kilometers per hour in a 30 kilometer zone."

Given that Switzerland calculates fines based on the offenders’ wealth, the duck is probably escaping a heft bill. A local millionaire was fined some $290k back in 2010 for driving 137km per hour in an 80km hour zone.
