Even though the first Presidential debate in Mexico was undoubtedly about the attacks on leading candidate Mr. Lopez Orbador, the takeaway from the evening was still that independent candidate Mr Jaime ‘El Bronco’ Rodriguez, whom 50% of Mexicans did not know of before the debate started, proposed to ‘chop off the hands of thieves’ or politicians sentenced for corruption for that matter and was with that the hit of the evening on social media.
The comparisons to Game Of Thrones were greatly outnumbering support for any candidate afterward and the ‘El Bronco’ Memes outstripped anything else. All in all, interesting times we would say.

The leading candidate, Mr. Lopez Obrador, appeared so totally relaxed under the attacks from his rivals that at one point he took out a graphic showing him with a 48 percent favorability rating in the Reforma newspaper's poll last week.

Mr. Obrador stated: "I don't mean to brag, But something terrible has to happen for us not to win, and we're going to win this debate."

After the debate, no one of the political pundits was sure about assigning a clear winner, but all were in agreement that Mr. Obrador had simply succeeded in defending himself against the others, who are indeed bound to lose unless they can unite into 1 candidate to run against the leftwing populist.

Mr. Carlos Bravo Regidor, a political analyst, agreed: "Lopez Obrador looks invincible."
"It's not because of his stump speech or his team but because he's the candidate who's been able to represent a restless society that's been kicked around. He represents a sense of hope, changes. None of the other candidates have been able to do that, and that makes him strong, solid, safe."
"I wouldn't say he won the debate. Because he did not even try to debate. He just came to defend himself. But I think he more or less succeeded in that."
