The case of Mr Andrew Brunson, the Christian pastor who lived in Turkey for more than two decades and was jailed on charges of helping the Gülen network, continues to stir emotions as it became known that 66 US senators signed a letter demanding the Turkish authorities release Mr Brunson.

So far, Turkish President Erdogan is however not budging. Via his ministries, he has floated a trade of Pastor Brunson for Fethullah Gülen (the exiled Islamic preacher living in Pennsylvania who the Turkish authorities blame for the coup attempt).

The letter, led by Republican Senator Thom Tillis, representing Mr Brunson's home state of North Carolina, claims that the said the US Senate backs the efforts to strengthen cooperation between U.S. and Turkish law enforcement.

If found guilty of the charges, Mr Brunson could be jailed for 35 years imprisonment.
