An ex-stripper just got lucky when she inherited a six-figure sum left by an HBO executive whom she’d met only months before his death. Court records say she also overcame the challenge posed by the deceased’s family.
34-year-old Veronica Beckham said she first became friends with the cable network’s IT director, Micky Liu, after meeting him at the Atlantic Scores strip club in Jul 2014.
Less than a year after meeting the blonde Beckham, Liu, 50, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment. Prior to that he has been struggling with several health issues including being obese, diabetic, suffering from a heart disease, and dealing with chronic alcoholism.
Beckham insists it is her “everlasting friendship” with the former executive that became his basis for naming her the beneficiary of his retirement accounts and a life insurance policy worth a combined $223,000.
Liu’s sister, May Liu, contested the claims and said that “Beckham, as a professional exotic dancer, was adept at applying and using coercion and manipulation upon men.”
May Liu charged in her Manhattan Surrogate’s Court suit that Beckham “preyed upon Micky Liu’s vulnerability by exerting influence over him in the form of moral coercion.”
The curious thing is Liu signed off on the transfers between October 2014 and January 2015. But it appeared that by that time period, Beckham and Liu were no longer friends.
Liu even wrote an email to Beckham telling her he miss her, and asking why it was taking her so long to get her phone replaced. He even asked if she needed some money, and hinted that he can give her some. He also wrote that he was simply not used to not being able to contact her.
Beckham countered Liu’s sister’s accusations and insisted she and Liu never had a sexual relationship, only an “everlasting friendship.”
Beckham also denied accusations that she’s nothing but a gold digger. She has also since refashioned herself into a Miami-based stylist which counts as clients rapper Flo Rida.
Judge Rita Mella for her part said there was nothing she could do about the matter because only prior beneficiaries could sue for the funds, and in this case it can only be the executive’s former girlfriend.
Mary Liu is determined in pursuing the case further and not to allow a former stripper get away with her brother’s money.
