In today's episode of the infamous “Florida Man,” a 34-year-old from Jacksonville was arrested by law enforcement after he was caught attacking swans at Lake Eola Park, to which he told police that he was simply “practicing karate.”
Rocco Joseph Mantella was described by multiple eyewitnesses as to attacking several swans, chasing them throughout the park at around 9:15 am, according to the Orlando Police Department.
One of the witnesses claims that Rocco Joseph Mantella high-kicked a swan in its backside, before performing a jump kick on two additional pheasant’s skulls “as hard as possible,” two which such force was used that the swans were knocked over.
According to another witness, the karate expert Mantella also is a master of sneak ability, proven as he crept up on a sleeping duck and kicked it in the skull.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that a third witness watched as they were exiting a walkway when Mantella kicked another swan in the face, noticed they were watching and began to laugh as if it were the hilarious thing he'd ever seen.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene they found the karate kid idling by a park bench, at which time they placed him under arrest.
Authorities also proceeded to locate any of the animals to take photographs of their injuries, but the swans, clearly defeated, had fled the scene.
Mantella is being detained in the Orange County Jail on charges of cruelty to animals pending a $1000 cash bond and is scheduled for arraignment next week.
