Georgia - Black Thief Stole Woman’s Identity and Drained Her Bank Account

The police are in hot pursuit of a woman who has been hitting up several local bank branches and managed to drain people’s bank accounts by stealing their identities.

The officers said the suspect stole Quintasha Swanson’s identity to get all her money in the bank. Local media obtained surveillance video of the alleged scammer walking into the Bank of America branch along Fulton Industrial Boulevard in College Park, Georgia.

The surveillance video shows the identity thief casually walking into four different Bank of America branches across metro area in order to commit the crimes.

Swanson says she does not know the woman in the video. She is also visibly upset for what was done to her and her savings. She told the local journalist Nefertiti Jaquez from WSB-TV 2: “I was highly p* at first. I’m a single mom working hard and to have someone go in and take something you’re working hard to build.”

The investigators are still at a loss about the identity of the thief, as well as how exactly she manages to drain other people’s bank accounts including compromising Swanson’s information. All they have is that surveillance video showing the black short-haired woman wearing a Steelers jacket. They have been looking for her since January 16.

Sgt. Marcus Dennard with the College Park Police Department said the thief has realistic checks that are written to the victim. With a bogus check in hand, the thief managed to swipe several thousand dollars from the victim in just 3 days.

Swanson also wonders why bank employees were not alerted to the red flags when the thief pretending to be her went in there to drain her account.

A Bank of America representative only sent Jaquez a statement saying they’re committed to the security of their customer’s accounts and financial information. The bank also encourages customers to monitor their accounts frequently.

It is not clear, however, what efforts or guarantees will be made and extended for single mom Swanson to recover her hard-earned money. The authorities have yet to establish also if the bank has some accountability for their failure to stop the fraud.
