Mexican-American Salma Hayek suggested on Sunday that male stars should get considerable pay cut “to even things up” with perennially underpaid women in the industry.

The actress told a conference a day after joining other women movie makers at a demonstration at the Cannes Film Festival calling for women’s rights: “The actors have to say: ‘OK, time’s up. I had a good run but now it’s also time to be generous with the actresses in the films.”
An outspoken campaigner against sexual harassment in the industry, Hayek also added: “We all have to be part of the adjustment. That’s one idea. I’m going to be hated for it. I hope I can get a job after this!”
The prestigious Cannes Film Festival runs from May 8 to May 19, and the issue of equality has been a running theme through out the said festival. It is also the first time it is running since the spate of sexual harassment allegations against industry movers and powerful male players including actors and producers rocked the entire industry. The scandals paved the way for advocates like Hayek to join what is now being referred to as #MeToo movement and #TimesUp.
Hayek’s suggestion about the voluntary pay cut is not being received well by many social media users who are joining the discussion as they argue that the actress’ idea is neither practical nor fair. Some say Hayek should instead push for higher pay or equal pay for all, male and female stars and workers, and not to put down a certain category.

Others are pointing to how Hayek’s views reflect the problematic views of the left- liberals and Democrats.

Fed up perhaps with the left rhetoric espoused by Hayek, some turned harsh with the part-Mexican actress.

>Actresses
Women get by in acting almost solely based on their looks, it's hard to find a genuinely good actress who's not where she is just due to being eye-candy. Men at least have to muster up some acting capabilities, for the most part.
>Sports
Female sports are BOOOOORING and dreadfully so, no exceptions. Any sport you can watch women participate in you can easily find a male equivalent that will be a hundred times far more interesting and competitive.
Having audited payrolls since 1983 I have come to 3 conclusions.
(1) The wage difference is a myth because the method used to calculate isn't apples to apples.
(2) That said, there are 3 areas where women make less money than men - Actresses, Sports, Democratic interns,
(3) The one industry that females have a clear pay rate advantage is adult films.
