Taylor Swift Hit by “September” Writer; Gets Away as Billboard’s Most Awarded

Someone’s not happy with Taylor Swift’s cover of Earth, Wind & Fire’s famous hit “September”, and unfortunately for the pop superstar that someone only happens to be the classic song’s co-writer.

Alee Willis, who co-wrote “September” with EW&F’s Maurice White and Al McKay, said Taylor’s rendition was “about as exciting as a drunk and sedated turtle napping.”

Her exact words were harsh and pretty brutal: “I didn’t really think she did a horrible job. Yes, I felt it was lethargic as a drunk turtle dozing under a sunflower after ingesting a bottle of Valium, and I thought it had all the build of a one-story motel, but, I mean, the girl didn’t kill anybody.”

Willis did not stop with the already cruel words. She continued to give a piece of her mind on Taylor’s cover of the song she helped gave birth to. She added: “She didn’t run over your foot. She just cut a very calm and somewhat boring take of one of the peppiest, happiest, most popular songs in history.”

Willis, harsh words and all, acknowledged that she feels “honored” that one of the most popular performers today chose to do her song and that it meant something to Taylor that she wanted to personalize it.

Taylor released her acoustic version of “September” in April on Spotify. She was slammed by many critics and fans of the original version for turning the funky song into a country snoozer. To Taylor’s credit, the band’s own lead singer had nothing but good words and praises for Taylor’s take.

But despite the slamming from Willis, Taylor continues her winning ways especially with the awards she just received from the Billboard Music Awards 2018 as Top Female Artist and Top Selling Album. She has become the most awarded artist in BBMA.
