Chen appears to offer no resistance and perhaps was not fully aware of what was happening. The two kidnappers, a man and a woman on either side of Chen, walk casually as if they were just on a stroll. The two are a part of a gang and held Mrs. Chen for ransom.
Once they had sequestered her away from the airport, they called her husband and demanded 10 million baht ($312,441). When Chen's husband paid the ransom, they demanded another 5 million baht. He refused and called the police.

The next evening Mrs. Chen was dumped by the roadside in Bangkok. In total, she spent 13 days in captivity at the gang's hideout. No leads have been revealed, but an investigation is underway.
