Women’s rights lawyer Gloria Allred held up a t-shirt on which $7.25 was printed, showing the world just how little the Houston Texans cheerleaders that are suing their former employer were paid. The five women she represents accuse the team of failing to pay overtime, intentionally inflicting emotional distress on the dance squad (aka fat-shaming them if they didn’t meet the required weight), breach of contract, and assault by threat of bodily injury.

The detailed accusations that the women reported show how entrenched the bodily shaming had become within the NFL.
One of the ladies accusing the team stated that a Cheerleading coach had duct-taped her "stomach skin underneath her shorts" in order to show the rest of the squad how much "better it looks". Girls were also told they had a ‘jelly belly’ or a ‘chunky chin’.
The lawsuit read: "While their beauty and cheers provided ample entertainment for fans, the Houston Texans cheerleaders were never treated like the integral part of the team that they are."

The girls’ contract stated that they would be paid the state minimum of $7,25 per hour but they also had to perform numerous tasks outside of their regular hours for which they were not paid, such as spending multiple hours per day at the gym, tweeting every two days for the team, getting a spray tan before every game and event, signing thousands of calendars and many more small tasks.
