A police news release said Harrison shot her 49-year-old husband, Dexter Harrison, during an argument over their cat.
Police responded to the scene around 6:45 a.m. to the couple’s home in the 1300 block of Fall Manor Drive. Mary Harrison herself reported that she had shot her husband during the heated argument.
Harrison was soon arrested on a murder charge after her admission of guilt. She told police that her husband, Dexter Harrison, had been beating their cat during the argument.
Dexter Harrison was brought to Presbyterian Hospital, where he later died.
It is not clear what the status of the couple’s relationship is prior to the shooting, if it has been strained or antagonistic all along, or if they have been fighting over bigger things. It is also not clear if the husband has been maltreating the cat all along.
Mary Harrison is still in the Dallas County Jail on Sunday. Her bail is set at $100,000. It is not clear if the couple had children.
The cat’s condition is also not clear.
Social media users’ reactions to the news range from funny, sarcastic to even sympathetic- to the cat, that is, whether that comes out as a surprise or not.
