Although Chancellor Angela Merkel would have wanted questions at the G7 to be about trade and tariffs, the German press was quite prickly in her opinion as there was one thing on their minds as well: Susanna Maria Feldman, the murdered 14-year-old girl.

Ms Merkel will return home to face criticism over her failed asylum policy due to this latest case where a 20-year-old refused asylum seeker, called Ali Bashar, was able to murder a 14-year-old German student girl and slip out of the country easily to return to his parents in Iraq, where he was later arrested. Today he was extradited to Germany where he will face trial.

The porous borders of Germany and the fact that refused asylum seekers can easily stay in Germany without being caught (Mr Bashar had been accused of raping an 11-year-old whilst in the asylum centre) means more calls for harsher immigrations regulations are on the rise again.

Mr Christian Baldauf, leader of Merkel's conservatives in the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate, said: "The procedures and rules for asylum, refuge and integration must be put under scrutiny."
"Who can understand that a rejected asylum seeker who has been tried several times for various violent crimes cannot be deported, but the same man manages to travel back to his home country in a cloak and dagger operation?"
Many in the tabloid press were demanding on Sunday that Ms Merkel starts copying the new rules implemented by her Austrian colleague, Mr Sebastian Kurz, who has lowered benefits for any asylum seeker that does not pass a German test.
Because of crimes like this, the anti-immigration Alternative Fur Deutschland (AFD) political party has been able to gain some 16% in the most recent election, votes that they took away from Ms Merkel’s CDU-CSU conservative party.

Mr Wolfgang Schauble, the former finance minister and current president of the Bundestag, admitted Germany would have to change its asylum policy: "We must cut back parts of our German law, if we want to come to a common European asylum policy."
