Colorado – Teen Vandalizes National Monument to Write His ‘Promposal’

A teen wanted to be “cute” and went out of his way to declare his ‘promposal’. But in his eagerness to impress his date, he desecrated a national monument that is considered a crime. What started as his excitement for the prom night may end up with him spending time in jail for committing graffiti.

The teen used black spray paint to have the word “prom…ise?” and other declarations of love written on the Colorado National Monument. The park staff announced on Saturday that what the teen did is considered graffiti and is punishable by up to six months in prison and a $500 fine.

The teen responsible for the graffiti remains unidentified. The Colorado National Park Service is asking for the public’s help to find the person responsible for the vandalism.

Monument representative Ranger Frank Hayde told the media that they may be more lenient if the teen turns himself in and admit his mistake.

It is becoming a trend for high school students to become more daring and creative in their manner of asking their prospective dates to their proms, popularizing in the process the term ‘promposal.’ Many are fun and positive in their approach, gaining the attention even of celebrities at times. Some teens, however, have courted trouble by using a political, racial or controversial message in their proposal.

Most comments on social media agree that what the teen did was wrong, and some call for him to be punished to learn his “lesson.” Others say the message was right, but he wrote it in the wrong place.
