India – Social Media User Make Fun of Failed Search for UFO at PM Modi’s Residence

It turned out to be another false alarm- or misplaced excitement as the case may be- too bad for India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, though, the online universe is there to laugh at this latest gaffe. On June 7, it was believed that an unidentified flying object or UFO was seen hovering over PM Modi’s residence that the security team had to search for the mysterious body but ended up finding nothing.

It was initially believed that a UFO was hovering over PM Modi’s residence sending the security team scrambling to find the said object. It didn’t matter that the official residence is a no-fly-zone at least within the 2-km radius around the PM’s home at Lok Kalyan Marg in Delhi. The Intelligence Bureau, National Security Guards and Delhi Air Traffic Control (ATC) were also informed about the sighting and were put on high alert.

The search, however, yielded nothing. After the said search, the Perimeter Security Officer simply sent an ‘Ok Report’ to the Delhi police.

Special Commissioner of Police and Delhi Police Chief Spokesperson Dependra Pathak released a statement “confirming” sighting but admitting nothing was really found, anyway. It said: “The sighting was reported but nothing threatening was found. More details cannot be shared keeping security reasons in mind.”

At least, Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police of New Delhi district was more candid in saying the sighting could have been nothing more of the ordinary as the officer spoke to local media and said: “We have not registered any FIR. It could have been a drone, which is common. I cannot disclose more information.”

Last year, sometime in September, the Delhi Police security control room was informed of a drone-like object flying in the Parliament area, but nothing was found there as well.

UFOs may be a serious thing, and certainly an object of concern and interest for both experts, enthusiasts and the plain curious, but the recent matter that happened at Pm Modi’s residence apparently made for good material for social media users to make fun of their official again.

These social media people probably lack the understanding of the basic definition of a UFO. So, here is the basic definition from Oxford dictionary.

UFO - A mysterious object seen in the sky for which it is claimed no orthodox scientific explanation can be found, often supposed to be a vehicle carrying extraterrestrials.

While most people focus only on the second part, they completely forget the first part, which could even include technologically advanced aircraft carriers. Maybe they forget that there are countries far advanced than India in science and technology. Just saying.
