Denmark, the tiny Scandinavian nation of only 6 million people, regularly makes it to the World Cup. The team lacks any real star power but is a coherent group that gets along well together.
The players once again showed their kindness for each other this week when all 23 players chipped in to pay for a private jet so defender Jonas Knudsen, who plays professionally for Ipswich town, could fly home and see his new-born daughter just after the World Cup win over Peru.

25-year-old Mr. Knudsen's wife Trine gave birth to a girl almost a month earlier than expected, just after had arrived in Russia for the tournament.

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who plays for the Premier League team Leicester City, explained: "We wanted to look at the human side. There are lots of fathers in the squad. You have to remember we are human beings as well as footballers."

Denmark, who luckily enough beat the technically better team of Peru 1-0 in Group C on Saturday, have to go up against Australia’s Socceroos today in Samara, Russia. The Australians will be out if they lose. They had lost their opening game on Saturday 2-1 against France.
