Pantera Drummer Vinnie Paul Dead at 54

Metal band Pantera’s co-founder and drummer Vinnie Paul is dead at 54.

Paul’s representative confirmed the artist’s death to media. Pantera’s official Facebook and Twitter page also posted a statement early Saturday announcing the sad news. However, in both announcements, no detail was given as to the cause of death.

The Rolling Stone reported, however, that Paul died in his sleep in his Las Vegas home. A medical examiner will later determine the cause of his death.

Vincent Paul Abbott in real life, Paul and his brother, Dimebag Darrell formed Pantera in 1981. Unfortunately, Dimebag born Darell Lance Abbott was fatally shot on stage with Damageplan band in 2004.

The Abbott brothers collaborated to put up Damageplan in 2003 after Pantera broke up.

Paul’s most recent engagement was with the band Hellyeah, a heavy metal supergroup which included Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray and Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell.

Tributes are pouring in on social media for Paul. Alice Cooper tweeted that Paul’s impact on music was “immeasurable.”
