Bahamas - Tourist Boat Explosion Turn Into Tragedy For US Family (Video)

A tourist boat tour in the idyllic Bahamas islands resulted in tragedy for an American family when the boat’s engine exploded, resulting in 1 dead and 9 injured.

22-year-old Stefanie Schaffer and her mother Stacey had traveled to the Bahamas together spend a vacation soaking in the sun, swimming in the crystal clear blue waters and spending time with Stefanie's younger sister Brooke and their stepfather Paul Bender.

However, the explosion that took place a little after 9 am Saturday when the boat was hitting the coast in front of the Exuma archipelago changed all that. Onboard together with them were eight other American tourists and two locals from the Bahamas.

As a result of the accident, young Stefanie’s legs both had to be amputated while she remains in critical condition in a medically induced coma at Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau.

Her mother Stacey also sustained serious injuries, including multiple broken bones and internal injuries.

Stepfather Paul and younger sister Brooke both suffered severe cuts and bruises but other than that were lucky enough to escape serious injury.

A Bahamas Member of Parliament responsible for the Exumas and Ragged Island, Mr. Chester Cooper confirmed to local media that one woman had died and that two people, both Americans, were in an 'extremely critical condition' in the Nassau hospital due to the accident.
