Authorities may attempt rescue for the 12 boys and their football coach found trapped but alive in a cave in northern Thailand before the expected rains arrive again this week.

The chief organizer of the rescue effort team has said they are in the thick of discussions and planning for the safest way to extract the group from the cave and bring them back to safety.

Seven members of the Thai Navy SEALs have reached the 12 boys and their coach together with a doctor and a nurse.

The boys and their coach were sitting on a ledge about a meter above water. They need to learn to dive in order to get out or wait for months for flooding to recede to get out.

Rescuers are also racing to pump water from the Tham Luang Nang Non Cave before the expected arrival of strong rain which could hamper and complicate rescue efforts for the team. The boys and their coach have been trapped 1km underground for the last 10 days.

Chiang Rai province governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn said: “We won’t bring them out until we find a totally safe way.”
A U.S. military team is deeply assisting the Thai rescuers with about 30 specialists flown in to help in the rescue mission. The U.S. ambassador to Thailand has also said they find the first stage of the rescue very satisfactory. \

Ambassador Glyn Davies said: "The American people join Thais in celebrating the discovery of the football team and their coach in Tham Luang cave. We will continue to support Thai authorities in their efforts to safely bring home the players and their coach."
The boys and their coach aside from being checked by medics have also been provided with food and water.

The authorities said that it is crucial for the rescue efforts to speed up before the arrival of heavy rains. Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda said: Diving gear will be used. If the water rises, the task will be difficult. We must bring the kids out before then. “Diving is not easy. Those who have never done it will find it difficult, because there are narrow passages in the cave. They must be able to use diving gear. If the gear is lost at any moment, it can be dangerous to life.”
The happy news of the boys' survival triggered jubilation in a country that has been gripped by the harrowing drama.

The boys were found in weak condition, but thankfully with only minor injuries.
