Mr Jan Ullrich, the first German cyclist to ever win the prestigious Tour de France cycling event was arrested today for trying to choke a call-girl in a luxury hotel in Frankfurt.
Mr Ullrich, a well-known figure in Germany, was taken into custody on assault charges whilst, according to the Frankfurt prosecutor’s office, under the influence of "massive amounts of alcohol and drugs."
Frankfurt's prosecutor’s office confirmed to the gathered German press that Mr Ullrich had indeed spent Thursday night with the luxury call girl, after which the pair got into a heated argument, and things escalated. The biggest tabloid newspaper Bild stated that Mr Ullrich choked the woman till her eyes turned dark after which she ran out of the room and sought help. She required medical attention afterward. Hotel staff called the police and Mr Ullrich was arrested a few hours later.
The prosecutor's office spokeswoman Ms Nadja Niesen: "He got a visit from a call-girl, a dispute took place and the lady was allegedly choked."

She confirmed the former cyclist was under the influence of "massive amounts of alcohol and other drugs. He was very impaired."
It was the second incident in less than a week for Mr Ullrich, who has admitted via a spokesperson he needs help to battle his addition. During his holiday in Spain, he was arrested in the Spanish island of Mallorca after breaking into his neighbour's house and threatening him.

The neighbour in question was German film star Mr Til Schweiger, known for playing Sergeant Hugo Stiglitz in the WWII classic ‘Inglorious Bastards.’
Mr Jan Ullrich won the Tour de France in 1997 and gold and silver medals at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
