It was one frightening scenario in Yan'an City in China, but it also serves as an example of how unified, collective action, when put to good use, can save lives and property.
An eyewitness caught on video the shocking incident of a white SUV being on the edge of being swept by scary floodwaters in a large sinkhole on Saturday.

The hole is about 30 square feet wide, based on estimates. The van stood so perilously close to falling off if the people did not act fast enough as they scrambled to save the vehicle. Dozens of people can be seen forming two lines after they tied a rope to the vehicle and then collectively exerting effort to pull on the vehicle to prevent it from falling dangerously into the hole.
The people had to simultaneously pull on the rope several times before they finally succeeded in getting the SUV on to their side- and to safety.
Thankfully, the collective spirit and team effort of the people saved the day for the SUV as they successfully pulled it to safer ground.
In the video, several cars can be seen seemingly stranded on both sides, unable to cross because of the floodwaters in the sinkhole.
The city had to content with more than 5 and a half inches of rain in one day.
The flooding has blocked roads and caused about 20 streets to cave in, toppling retaining walls in the process.
