Jair Bolsonaro, the rightwing conservative candidate currently leading the Brazilian presidential polls was stabbed during a campaign rally. He has been transported to the hospital where he is expected to fully recover in about ten days from now.

Mr Bolsonaro was immediately rushed to the Santa Casa de Misericórdia hospital in the town of Juiz de Fora, some 125 miles north of Rio de Janeiro. He was immediately operated and one of the surgeons, doctor Glaucio Souza declared afterwards that: “the trajectory of the wound provoked various injuries. Mr Jair Bolsonaro arrived in a very serious condition at hospital with low pressure due to blood loss.”

Another doctor, Mr Glaucio Souza claimed: “the patient is now in intensive care. It is naturally a serious state because of the magnitude of the trauma but he is stable,”
By morning European time it was concluded by the medical staff that Mr Bolsonaro will make a full recovery but that in the short term he will no longer be able to give speeches or attend campaign rallies.

His attacker, who was immediately named Adélio Bispo de Oliveira, claimed that he was ordered by God to stab Mr Bolsonaro. social media insists that it was a ‘hit’ brought on by his leftwing supporters.
Mr Paulo Baía, a professor of political science at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, claimed that the attack would lead the campaign into a decisive turn: “the attack strengthens Bolsonaro and practically guarantees him a place in the second round.”

There was less sympathy from the leftwing PT, where former President Dilma Rousseff declared in a reaction that Mr Bolsonaro brought it on himself with his extremist views on certain issues. in an interview with the Folha de S Paulo newspaper, Ms Rosuseff said: “When you plant hate, you harvest thunderstorms.”

My understanding is that he has a pretty decent chance. If we can doctor up a soldier who took a 7.62 AK round in the gut, they should be able to doctor up a knife wound…
This is sad. The real danger would be infection, if someone was willing to knife the guy it is possible the blade was poisoned. Hell, you probably wouldn't even have to poison it beyond dragging it on a dirty public bathroom floor. I hope he recovers!
The criminal is already protected by human rights cancer paying a expensive lawyer firm and our lax laws against criminals will protect him from any kind of coercion. He will stay imprisoned for 6 years maximum or will try to pretend he is crazy. There was at least two other people near him helping him with the attack, and they will end up unpunished.
