China is slowly but surely opening up to global pop acts. However, just as last seen during the Eurovision semi-final in 2018 when someone waved a rainbow LGBT flag and the Chinese television broadcast cut the feed, they are not too keen on Chinese fans showing their support for the gay-movement (or even for anyone dancing during concerts for that matter).
And thus, young English-Albanian singer Dua Lipa was left to cry on stage when she noticed what Chinese security forces did to her fans who dared to stand up and dance during her songs or, even worse, to those that dared to wave a rainbow flag.

Writing on social media, the ‘Be the one’ singer acknowledged what had happened in China, stating: "I'm proud and grateful that you felt safe enough to show your pride at my show."
She added: "I would love to come back for my fans when the time is right and hopefully see a room full of rainbows."

Although homosexuality isn't illegal in China, there is a strong anti-LGBT feeling amongst authorities and, ever since the presidency of Mr. Xi Jinping, a recent trend to side-line the LGBT community, both from social media and any official gatherings.

Some social media users claimed that fans were being forcibly removed simply because they were dancing whilst others made it more clear and stated it was because they were waving pro-gay rights flags.

The young singer could be seen getting visibly upset by the violence being played out in front of her and stated: "I want to create a really safe environment for us all to have fun.
"I want us all to dance. I want us all to sing, I want us all to just have a really good time."
"I would love in these last few songs for us to really, really, really enjoy ourselves. How about that?"
