Bienvenue En Banlieue! - Paris Violence Level Shocks France (Video)

‘Bienvenue En Banlieue’ or ‘Welcome to the Suburbs’ was the rallying cry of youth gangs in Paris who revolted against then Minister of the Interior Nicolas Sarkozy and burnt the cities surrounding Paris in 2005 for several days on end.

Mr Sarkozy visited the suburbs afterwards, hugged an older woman who was crying and vowed that ‘we will clean all these bandits up with a Kärcher’ (high pressure cleaner).

He was elected President the next year and his political party spent millions to clean up the street. After that, Paris’ violence levels returned to ‘normal’.

The group ‘Sniper’ did an infamous rap about this period, named ‘Brûle’ (Burn)

However, given the ‘soft’ presidency of former socialist President Hollande and the fact that current President Macron is busily reforming French labor laws, the levels of violence seem to be on the rise again.

Certainly the fact that some of the suburbs are once again met by rising unemployment and an unsure future for most of the youngsters with immigrant backgrounds, being part of ‘youth gangs’ is all the rage again.

None less so than in Garges Les Gonesses, a suburb near the Paris Le Bourget airport which saw a grave violent encounter this week between members of two different youth gangs. The video which has been making the rounds on social media since then shows how 10 youngsters hit a rival member with sticks until he is bleeding from the head.

The youngster getting hit at first still tries to hide under a car but he is pulled out by the legs. The other kids show no remorse and hit him with iron bars and anything else they can grab a hold of.

In the background someone can be heard yelling ‘leave him alone’ at which point the gang runs away, realizing they are being filmed.

Police have launched inquiries into the act and are asking anyone with information about the perpetrators to come forward. So far no one has responded.
