The Butler High School in Matthews, North Carolina was locked down this morning after a shooting. The information so far is that one student shot at another one and has been apprehended. The weapon was seized by police and the shooter is in custody. The high school counts as many as 2,000 students.

Parents of the children got a text message from the Butler High School early this morning, saying: “This is Principal John LeGrand calling with an important message about our Butler High School Community. Butler High School is on lockdown after a student was shot within our building this morning. The single shooter has been apprehended and the weapon is in possession of law enforcement.”

The Matthews Police Department afterwards released a statement an hour ago: “We have responded to a shooting at Butler High School this morning. There is one student that has been shot that was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries at this time.”

“Another student has been taken into custody. This is believed to be an isolated incident and the scene has now been secured by police. Information on releasing students to their parents will be coming soon.”

Parents were frantic as many of them received texts from their children informing them about the shooting. A mother showed on NBC Charlotte the texts she had just received: “Mom oh God somebody in here with a gun. We are all running for our lives. I never ran so fast mom, oh my God.”

Police have now asked the parents to go to Elevation Church before the students are released from school.
