A man has filed a petition to change his age so he can have better opportunities to go back to work and meet more women, arguing, too, that if transgender people are allowed to change their sex, then he should be permitted as well to change his age.
69-year-old Emile Ratelband wants to be recognized as 49 years old since he is confident he feels 20 years younger, anyway.
Ratelband even compares his petition to that of transgender people being allowed to change their sex. In an attempt to further back up his claim, Ratelband says his doctors told him he has the body of a 45-year-old.
The entrepreneur and self-help guru from the Netherlands had his petition rejected, however, by a local authority.
The determined man, however, is not about to give up. Instead, he is suing his local authority after their refusal to allow his to change his age on his official documents.
Ratelband was born on March 11, 1949, but since he says he feels 20 years younger, he wants to amend his birth date to March 11, 1969.
Now, it’s up to a court to decide his petition. His case has now gone to a court in the city of Arnhem in the eastern Dutch province of Gelderland.
The petitioner insists: “I have done a check-up and what does it show? My biological age is 45 years.”
He says his age has been a hindrance to him on so many levels. He deplored: “When I’m 69, I am limited. If I’m 49, then I can buy a new house, drive a different car. I can take up more work.”
His age is also getting in the way of him getting a more enjoyable love life. He shared: “When I’m on Tinder and it says I’m 69, I don’t get an answer.”
Since he is suffering from discrimination at work and in social matters, Ratelband wants the spirit that allowed transgender people to change their sex to apply to him, as well.
He even argued that allowing him to change his age will allow the government to have some savings since he will no longer get pension - not until “he reaches retirement age again.”
A judge was sympathetic to his troubles and sentiments, but the court said there would be practical problems if people like Ratelband are allowed to change their age since it would be tantamount to legally deleting part of their lives.
The court is scheduled to formally deliver a written ruling in a month’s time.
