2020 - Could Media Darling O’Rourke Be A Contender?

The interpretation of this Democratic victory in the House is less clear than the result at the Republican side. Whoever opted for that Grand Old Party also indirectly chose the person and the story of Donald Trump (although he was not on the electoral list).

That is completely different for the Democrats. They attracted both center voters and more left-wing voices. They have no idea who will face Trump in 2020.

The list of candidates is pages long, and the Democratic Party is ideologically much more diverse than the other camp. But can the Democrats afford a new conflict-rich election?

The battle between center-right (Hillary Clinton) and the left (Bernie Sanders) in 2016 was named the 'Democratic civil war'. Another conflict like that would weaken the ranks.

One of the possible contenders that many say has emerged through the Midterm elections is Mr Beto O’Rourke. Even though he lost to Ted Cruz in Texas, many on the left see in him a possible President for 2020.

The tone of the Democrat was positive when he admitted his defeat in his speech. "I believe in you, I believe in Texas and I believe in this country," O'Rourke said to the assembled audience. 'I feel inspired and hopeful. The loss of today does not change what I feel for Texas or this country.

For the first time in twenty years, a Democratic candidate in the traditional Republican bastion Texas has come so close to a seat in the Senate. Long before the Tuesday elections, the Democrat had already been compared to Robert Kennedy because of his charisma, his looks, his ability to speak multiple languages and his intense political passion.

Mr Mark Jones, a political scientist at Rice University, stated: “O'Rourke raised more money than any other Texan Democrat, managed to whip the public more than any other Texan Democrat or Republican in recent history and blew new life into the Democratic party.”

“Even though Beto-mania bit the dust tonight, he has a bright future ahead of him."

The Washington Post, normally a well-informed newspaper about possible Democratic contenders for the Presidency, pointed out the large masses that the young Democrat could mobilize during his campaign at his rallies and states he is certainly a ‘force to be reckoned with.’

Furthermore, O'Rourke visited all 254 Texas counties with a positive message about an inclusive society. He went for young voters, moderates and Never Trump voters. Clothes bearing the inscription 'Beto for Texas' are now very popular in Democratic circles.

The Democrats hoped that a new wind would blow through Texas with Beto O'Rourke. The Democrat was able to raise $38.1 million for his election campaign, an absolute record for a Senate election in the US.

The previous record stood at $22 million, when Republican Rick Lazio recorded it in 2000 against Democrat Hillary Clinton. According to the Texas Tribune, O'Rourke collected three times as much money as his Republican counterpart candidate Ted Cruz, who raised only $ 12 million.

Will O’Rourke become the figure the can united progressives and centrists for the Democrats? Time will tell.

My gawd I was sick of watching his vainglory play out in 30 second sound bites every day on the tube. People ate that shit up too. Sad and Fucking Scary.

At the end, when it was clear he couldn't carry Texas, he switched to National Mode with gun grabbing and open borders.

We are Fucked as a Nation.
