For more than a year, prosecutor Robert Mueller has been working on his investigation into supposed Russian collusion by the Trump campaign during the 2016 Presidential Election.
President Trump consistently dismisses Mueller's research as 'deceit' and speaks of a political 'witch-hunt' against him. Trump's voters mostly agree. Therefore, from the point of view of his supporters, Trump would probably not pay any political price if he fires Mueller, after dismissing AG Sessions earlier this week.

The new Attorney General ad interim seems to be on the same line as the President.
Matthew Whitaker let it slip that Mueller's research has gone too far. As a regulator, Whitaker now gets a lot of power and the Democrats fear that Mueller’s firing is very close.
Could Whitaker sabotage the investigation?
In theory yes. Mueller has to submit every report about his research to the Attorney General, who then gets to decide what happens to it.
Whitaker could also drain Mueller's research financially, and require the special prosecutor to refrain from investigating certain people. He can thus sabotage Mueller if he wants to.
But in the US the game is played even dirtier and the sabotage can come from many sides.
Companies specialize in searching for mud on political opponents. Mueller's office recently informed the FBI for example that several women were promised a lot of money if they accused him of sexual misconduct.
What exactly is Mueller investigating?
As a special prosecutor, Mueller examines whether there were any contacts between the Russian government and Trump's campaign team in connection with the US presidential election in 2016.
Not Mueller, but the former FBI director James Comey started the investigation. But Comey was dismissed by President Trump. Soon after, in May 2017, Mueller took over.
Has Mueller found anything yet?
Mueller's team has already sued 32 individuals and 3 organizations for a total of 191 offenses. Eight suspects have been found guilty, including five former Donald Trump employees, and four of them have already been sentenced to prison.
The guilty parties include Trumps former campaign manager Paul Manafort, his former national safety advisor Michael Flynn, and his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen.
In order not to disrupt the campaign for the Midterms, Mueller's team held its nerve, by not suing anyone or having them arrested.
This is why Mueller was expected to get back to his investigation immediately after the elections - perhaps by formulating his long-awaited final conclusion.
It was also expected that Trump would try to prevent this, for example by sacking Sessions or Rosenstein, or sidetracking them. That is why Sessions' resignation did not come as a surprise.
Has Mueller waited too long before presenting his conclusion?
The former attorney general for the District of Columbia, Mr Philip Allen Lacovara thinks so. He worked as advisor to the prosecutors in the Watergate investigation and claims he does not understand why Mueller has withheld his final report until after the Midterm election.

Acting AG Whitaker's hostility to the Special Counsel’s investigation disqualifies him from overseeing Robert Mueller. We are leading 18 state attorneys general in calling on Whitaker to recuse himself immediately. #ProtectMueller pic.twitter.com/G7vzxSEbcl
— Maura Healey (@MassAGO) November 8, 2018

According to Mr Lacovara, Mueller has postponed his final conclusion too long, which makes it now politically irrelevant. Whatever Mueller's findings are, the Democrats will never again find sufficient support in the Senate for Trump's deposition, now that the Trump supporters have further strengthened themselves there.

Geez I'm thinking of opening a print shop - that sign showed up quick.
Mueller is supposedly in report writing stage, why bother?
WHITTAKER WILL NEVER RECUSE HIMSELF. AND THIS HAS PUT MUELLER IN A BIND AS WELL. HOW CAN MUELLER CONTINUE HIS ANTICS WHEN HE NOW HAS TO ANSWER TO ONE WHO WILL HOLD HIM ACCOUNTABLE FOR SHINANIGANS, AND SESSIONS WAS NOT THE LAME DUCK EVERYONE HAS BEEN LED TO BELIEVE. HIS MISSION WAS A SUCCESS WHILE AG. THE LAST LINE IN HIS RESIGNATION TELLS THE STORY. HE PLAYED HIS ROLE WELL. THANK YOU JEFF SESSIONS FOR YOUR BRILLIANT SERVICE TO AMERICA AND HER PEOPLE. WE WONT FORGET. GOD BLESS!!!
OH AND LETS NOT FORGET THERE ARE THOSE WHO BELIEVE THAT MUELLER IS PLAYING A DOUBLE ROLE AS WELL. WHILE HE IS CONVINCINGLY THROTTLING THE RIGHT, HE IS SIMULTANEOUSLY COLLECTING EVIDENCES ON THE LEFT. (BY THE WAY… I READ Flynn WAS RECENTLY CLEARED) ANYWAY TIME WILL TELL. GOT POPCORN? ENJOY THE SHOW! ~WWG1WGA~
Civil War, I'm sure the Libshits are fair enough to not call the bullshit that's been seen in this "Investigation" for almost 3 years, that's even before Trump won, but now that its about to end, Mueller has to have something to remove Evil Orange Man.
