London – New Shock Tactic Approved: Police Car Ramming Moped Thieves (Video)

The Metropolitan police of London has introduced a shocking new tactic to tackle moped and motorcycle crime, which, given the British capital’s congested traffic, is a real plague.

During the pursuit of criminals on mopeds, the police nowadays ram criminals off their vehicles as you can see in the hereunder videos.

The tactic seems to be working: the percentage of thefts using scooters has decreased considerably.

The new measure was introduced last year and has so far resulted in a 36 percent decrease in thefts using a moped.

As of late, moped criminals believe that police will not ram them if they remove their helmet. But that trick does not stop the police team crashing into them, according to inspector Jim Corbett. With a new 'tactical contact' method, suspects are still driven off their moped or motorcycle, helmet or no helmet.

Team Scorpion

A special team has been specially trained for the new approach, called Scorpion. They are taught to cause as little injury as possible to the suspect during the collision.

This year the approach of ramming suspects on mopeds has already been applied 63 times. Three of these cases are being investigated because they left the suspects with injuries.

Inspector Jim Corbett explained how those who thought they would not be chased if they took off their helmets were in for a serious surprise: “A big myth that we have is that if people remove their helmets they think they are not going to be pursued.”

One of the Scorpion drivers, Sergeant Tony McGovern explains: “It’s just a slight nudge. It’s controlled,” he then continues to say that suspects “are shocked. They say ‘We did not think you were allowed to do that,’ especially when they take off their helmet. They are confused.”

Strongly support the process, if the crime is clearly witnessed and enough info on the driver/ rider is obtained.

These Moped Thugs have injured many a pedestrian eluding the police or fleeing the scene.
