Jim Acosta (7 November): “Your Campaign Had An Ad Showing People Climbing Over Walls”

The saying goes that ‘Karma’s a bitch’ and certainly in the case of the testy exchange between CNN’s Mr. Jim Acosta and US President Donald Trump of 7 November 2018, one day after the Midterms, the cliché is true.

We would like to remind our readers of the feisty exchange which came one day after the Midterm elections and which resulted in the US media backing Mr. Jim Acosta of CNN during the court case a week later as he was stripped of his White House press credentials for improperly touching a White House intern.

Given the images seen at the border crossing in Tijuana this weekend, they make for some interesting reading.

Here is the exact transcript of the exchange between CNN’s Mr. Jim Acosta and US President Donald Trump of that day.

Acosta: Thank you, Mr. President, I wanted to challenge you on one of the statements that you made in the tail-end of the campaign in the Midterms.
Trump: Here we go…
Acosta: Well if you don’t mind Mr. President…
Trump: Come on…

I thought November 7 you said President Trump made up the story of illegals storming the border? Have you apologized to the White House yet?

Acosta: .. that this caravan was an invasion.
Trump: I consider it to be an invasion.
Acosta: As you know, Mr. President, the caravan was not an invasion, it’s a group of migrants moving up from Central America towards the border with the US ….



Trump: Thank you for telling me that.
Acosta: Why did you characterize it as such…
Trump: Because I consider it an invasion. You and I have a difference of opinion.
Acosta: But do you think that you demonized immigrants during this election to try to keep…
Trump: No no no, I want them to come into the country, but they have to come in legally. They have to come in, Jim, through a process. I want it to be a process. I want people to come in and we need the people…

Acosta: Your campaign had…
Trump: Wait, wait, you know why we need the people. Because we have hundreds of companies moving in, we need the people.
Acosta: Your campaign had an ad showing migrants climbing over walls and so on….
Trump: Well that’s true.
Acosta: It wasn’t actors. They’re not gonna be doing that.
Trump: They are not actors, they are not from Hollywood. This happened just a few days ago…
Acosta: They are hundreds of miles away though….
Trump: You know what, I think you should let me run the country and you run CNN and if you did it well, your ratings would be better.

Three weeks later, on Sunday 25 November, a group of 500 migrants stormed the border between Tijuana and San Diego. They climbed over walls, threw rocks and were halted both by Mexican and US security forces.
