Facebook Wants New GOP Senator Donation Returned Over ‘Hanging’ Remark

Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith retook the GOP’s seat in Tuesday’s Mississippi special Senate election. She will finish retired Senator Thad Cochran’s current term through 2020, after being appointed to replace him earlier this year.

The Republican majority in the Senate is therefore secured at 53 seats for the GOP versus 47 seats for the Democrats. The Republicans thus significantly increased their power as the majority before the Midterms was only 51 seats compared to 49.

The victory of Ms Hyde-Smith on her counter-candidate Mike Espy was expected as the GOP candidate was well ahead in all polls.

Ms Hyde-Smith is a big Trump supporter. The US President led a campaign rally for her on Monday and already sent out his congratulations, stating: “Congratulations to Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith on your big WIN in the Great State of Mississippi. We are all very proud of you!”

Ms Hyde-Smith’s victory was marred by remarks which the liberal media say portray the apparent ‘racism’ in some Southern states.

Just yesterday, Facebook asked the new Mississippi Senator to return a $2,500 donation in response to a remark the GOP politician made about attending a “public hanging.”

“The recent public comments made by Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith do not reflect the values or mission of Facebook,” the social media company said.

In doing so, Facebook joined other companies, such as Google, AT&T, Walmart and Major League Baseball, who have all asked Hyde-Smith to return their donations.

Ms Hyde-Smith was under scrutiny after making the comment during a small campaign event earlier this month.
Referring to a supporter, the candidate said “if he invited me to a public hanging, I would be on the front row.”

Jim Crow

She also joked about voter suppression while campaigning to represent a state that pioneered the infamous ‘Jim Crow’ laws.

On social media, a picture surfaced of Ms Hyde-Smith wearing a Confederate hat and holding a rifle back in 2014 at the Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library.

Trump is always portrayed by the media for the worst, or "best" angles.

If pics are from 2014, that is on them. She apologized for the comments, I guess only liberals have the right to be human.
