The New Zealand police declared they were 'seriously worried' about the disappearance of a 22-year-old backpacker. British born Miss Grace Millane was last seen in Auckland on Saturday night. Since then, nothing has been heard from the young woman.
The young English backpacker from Essex arrived in Auckland on November 20, where she was last seen on December 1 in the company of a man. Nothing has been heard from the young woman since then, and that is unusual, says her father, who arrived in Auckland today to find his daughter.
"Grace is a sweet, spontaneous and family-oriented young woman," known real estate millionaire David Millane told the assembled media in Auckland today. "We normally have daily contact with Grace: that she does not contact us for so long is unusual. We are very worried and it is a difficult time for us. It is difficult to describe what we as a family are going through now. "
The concerned father hopes that people can help with any clues into the disappearance of his daughter.
Grace turned 22 just last Sunday, the day following her disappearance, and when she did not respond to the countless birthday messages from family and friends, this aroused great suspicion amongst her family member. Then on Monday, they informed the New Zealand police about the possible disappearance of their daughter.
Man questioned
The police share the concerns of the Millane family and put a team of twenty men on the case.
By analyzing camera images, the team has been able to find out that Grace entered the City Life Hotel in Queen Street in the center of Auckland on Saturday night in the company of a man. What happened to the young woman afterwards is unknown.
The man with whom Millane entered the hotel has been questioned by the police but has not been arrested.
The room where the man stayed is being investigated by a team of forensic investigators.
Scott Beard inspector from the Auckland police is calling anyone who was in the vicinity of the City Life Hotel in Auckland to report on the time of Miss Millane’s disappearance. "It is now six days since Grace was last seen and at the moment we fear for her safety," says the inspector. The police furthermore state that they are currently waiting for information from British banks to see where Grace used her bank and credit cards for the last time.
World trip
Grace Millane was just six weeks into a world trip which would take a year. The young woman traveled alone for the first time and spent four weeks in South America prior to her stay in New Zealand.
