VT - Irked Man Spent $4,000 On Giant Statue to Give Town The Middle Finger
A Vermont man’s ire cost him a huge $4,000 in bills for a sculpture he had ordered customized and erected as a giant statue of a middle finger for all of Westford town to see to illustrate his anger with town officials he’s locked with in a bitter dispute.
The statue looks like a hand flipping the bird. It is a large hunk of carved wood. It is also strategically placed on a high pedestal and it can be prominently seen from the road. It is even harder to miss because it is surrounded with floodlights to keep it illuminated even at night.
Behind the giant statue giving the town the middle finger is resident and businessman Ted Pelkey. He said he was so fed up with town officials that he just had to do something, and that’s what he came up with, regardless if he has to chunk out a hefty $4,000 in the process for the 700-pounds block of pine.
Pelkey is locked in an ongoing dispute with the city over his business decision to build a large garage and move his recycling and repair business to his property in order to attract a bigger market.
Pelkey said his patience with the city has ran out. He said: “We’ve been trying to put a business there for the past 10 years. It’s just never-ending. They’re railroading us really good.”
He insists the officials simply “don’t like us.”
A board member from Westford, however, says their apprehension is that such development proposed by Pelkey “will cause neighbors to suffer and reduce property value in the area.”
The government officials also say they are not against the idea of the statue because they respect free speech and public art.
It is Pelkey’s intention that his middle finger of a statue would get through his townmates especially “to have a really long look at the people who are running their town.”
Social media users lost no time in giving their reactions on the statue and the “purpose” it was made for.

forgive me , still trying to figure out how to do computer which would surprise STEVE and the others... yet artists do very creative works which can be sometime confusing to any public. but we also have a very talented artist .. depicting a family ,a sculpture . was perplexing perhaps there was a muse somewhere... thus if that works your viewer may understand art work... sort of.. if the file link works ~ no problem yet for others that rather find amazing sculpture of interest... well geert maas artist is worthwhile , breath ! this is international talent on display . cheers to the artist that fulfilled the objectivity of a Vermont person.. art oh i am not going to mention the 2 million $ that Canada gov paid for and orange stripe on a white canvas /rather huge canvas... still trying to get to bowls of the pit in that one. //on the France article ... hope Macron finds the light the good light...
