MA - Man Who Married Six Illegal African Women For Immigration Benefits Gets Probation

A man from Massachusetts shockingly married six various African women in order for them to be eligible for immigration benefits from the state. But apparently, he will not completely get away with his illegal act as the Justice Department confirmed on Thursday that he will be sentenced to two years of probation for his act.

U.S. District Court Judge Timothy S. Hillman of Boston decided to give 57-year-old Peter Hicks probation only instead of prison time following the government’s request for an 18-month term.

Federal investigators from Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations office discovered that Hicks from Worcester, Massachusetts had married six different women from sub-Saharan African countries in a span of a decade from 2003 to 2013.

Hicks pleaded guilty in September this year to one count of marriage fraud due to the fact that the statute of limitations had run out on the first five.

Hicks pulled off the stunt in the hopes of getting immigration benefits for the women who paid him from the sham marriages. He, in fact, filed for government benefits in four of the six marriages.

He also confessed to investigators in 2015 that he was paid to marry the ix women he didn’t even know. He was also compensated for his efforts to recruit other U.S. citizens to marry non-citizens so that they they could file for a green card in the hopes of eventually being granted full citizenship status.

Hicks’ marriages also overlapped at times. He also lied about on his sixth marriage, claiming to only having only one spouse in the past when he had already five former wives.
