IN - Cops Arrest High School Athlete For Murder of Pregnant Teen Schoolmate

Family and friends of a 17-year-old teen from South Bend, Indiana got concerned when they couldn’t contact her on Saturday afternoon that they decided to report their worries to the authorities. But little did they know they will be in for a much bigger shock and unimaginable heartbreak. The teen was later found dead inside a dumpster near a pizza parlor the following day, and just a short walk away from where she lived.

Even more tragic is that the victim, Breana Rouhselang was six-months pregnant at the time of her death. Now, aside from her family and friends, an entire community weeps for the violent crime committed against a beautiful, young and promising young woman, and would have been a mother.

Police have already arrested a suspect in Rouhselang’s murder, Aaron Trejo, 16, a sophomore football player at Mishawaka High School, the same school Rouhselang attended.

Trejo is now in police custody on a preliminary charge of murder. He was arrested shortly after the pregnant teen’s body was discovered. More details and information on how Rouselang died have yet to be released.

There’s a newly-released report, however, that says the teen died from multiple stab wounds and that her scarf was found tied so tightly that she might have suffered from strangulation, too.

"An autopsy confirmed that Breana Rouhselang died from multiple stab wounds, that her scarf had been tied so tightly that strangulation was occurring before Breana died, and that she was pregnant."

Lt. Alex Arendt from the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit said the victim and the suspect have some sort of a relationship, although he declined to give further details on the nature of their relationship pending an investigation.
He only said that “the teens knew each other through the football team at Mishawaka High School.”

Rouselang happened to be a manager for the football team and she also played softball.

Police said Trejo will be charged as an adult.

The school said they suffered a “terrible tragedy.” They are also worried about how the shocking crime will affect their students, that is why they are making grief counselors available to students who may have a hard time processing and accepting the terrible crime against their schoolmate.

Messages of sympathy and support continue to pour in for the family left behind by Rouselang. Rouselang’s stepmother also set up a GoFundMe page to help them cover the teen’s funeral expenses.
