Scandinavian Tourists Murder Video Posted On Victim's Mother Facebook

Uncensored images of the decapitation of two Scandinavian tourists murdered in the Moroccan mountains were put on the Facebook page of one of their grieving mothers by Moroccans sympathetic to Islamic State. Meanwhile in Morocco itself, realizing the interest of the European press in the story, vigils were held for the girls, with many of the public apologizing for the actions of a few.

By now, thirteen people have been arrested in various cities in Morocco. They are said to have helped or knew the four original perpetrators. More are still active on the internet as the video showing the murder of the two young tourists keeps popping up on Facebook, 4chan, and Reddit, mostly accompanied by Arabic language and praising the perpetrators who said to have acted out of revenge for the killing of their comrades in Syria. There are believed to be near 2,000 Moroccans fighting in Syria on the side of Islamic State

The murder of the two camping Scandinavian friends in the Moroccan Atlas Mountains was filmed with a terrorist motive. The horror images were also posted on the Facebook page of the mother of one of the victims. The four perpetrators declared to 'act out of revenge' for the Western fight against IS in Syria.

The mutilated bodies of Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, a Danish woman of 24 years old, and her Norwegian girlfriend, Maren Ueland, 28 years old, were found by two other tourists last Monday morning.

The students were found to have been killed with knife stabs in the neck. One of them was also beheaded. The perpetrators later spread a gruesome video through social media. According to the Norwegian intelligence service Kripos, the video is authentic.

Vigils

In Morocco itself, many small-scale vigils were held during the weekend. Members of the public held up signs saying they were sorry for the deaths of the girls. In Rabat, a minute's silence was held with Danish and Norwegian diplomats present. Hundreds of more people attended a vigil in the southern village of Imlil, near where the women's bodies were found, and flowers were also laid in the city of Marrakesh.

Morocco is the only remaining nation in Northern Africa which still received a fair number of European tourists in recent years.

In Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey tourism figures have all dropped in recent years due to attacks on tourists.
Many European countries have adapted their travel advice in recent days, warning the public not to travel alone to the Atlas Mountains.
