President Trump Insists On Christmas Day That The Border Wall Will Be Built

President Donald Trump is not backing down on his border wall plans and hopes, not even on Christmas Day. He declared to reporters in the Oval Office his prevailing sentiments.

Trump said: “’I can’t tell you when the government is going to be open. I can tell you it’s not going to be open until we have a wall, a fence, whatever they’d like to call it.”

He also stressed the importance of the border in his Christmas Twitter greetings.

Whatever the border wall is called, Trump said, the main objective of it remains as he added: “But it’s the same thing, it’s a barrier from people pouring into our country.”

Trump also continues to lay the blame on Democrats for their failure to approve a House-passed bill that has a provision for a $5.7 billion to fund the wall. The White House and congressional Democrats continue to be locked in a stalemate over the funding for Trump’s much-vaunted U.S.-Mexico border.

The federal government has partially shut down at 12 a.m. on Saturday after Congress failed to pass the spending legislation.

Trump reiterated why the wall matters to him and how it is crucial to the security of Americans. He said: “The people of this country want border security. I don’t want (murderers) in the country. The only way you’re going to do it is have a physical barrier, meaning a wall. And if you don’t have that, then we’re just not opening.”

The President has announced on his Twitter account last Sunday that he has already awarded a contract for a 115-mile-long wall section to be built in Texas. He said: “It’s going to be built hopefully rapidly. We’re going to have a great wall there.”

Trump underscored that the battle over funding will not get in the way as he shared: “So while we’re fighting over funding, we’re also building.”

The Senate is expected to do better on Thursday when it reconvenes in regular session to work toward a compromise.
