Egypt – Tourist Bus Bombed Near Pyramids, 2 Dead, 12 Wounded (Video)

A few hours ago, a bomb targeted a tourist bus visiting the pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Unfortunately, several people died and a dozen were transferred to nearby hospitals with life-threatening injuries.

At least two Vietnamese tourists died, ten other Vietnamese were injured when a roadside bomb exploded when the bus passed, says the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior.

The Egyptian bus driver and an Egyptian guide were also injured. The bomb was hidden near a wall along the side of the road. The wounded were transferred to the hospital, the police investigated the location of the attack.

The Pyramids of Giza, south of Cairo, are among the best known in Egypt and are visited by tens of thousands of tourists each year.

European Tour operator halts excursions

Thomas Cook, a European tour operator that has various European tourists in several hotels in the country, has scheduled a scheduled morning excursion to the Egyptian capital Cairo for tourists staying at other places, but has cancelled the excursions for the time being.

Both Thomas Cook and TUI are contacting their customers staying in Cairo.

Egypt had seen its tourism numbers drop in recent years after IS militants blew up a Russian jet carrying tourists but due to the low prices and the assurance of President Sisi that all was safe the country had become popular among Europeans as of late again.

The customers of TUI and Thomas Cook, the largest tour operators in the low countries, are not in the capital. "We do not fly to Cairo, but there are excursions to there. Usually our customers do not choose that. They come for the sun and the sea," said Tui spokesman Piet Demeyere.

Militants have targeted foreign visitors in the past, with two German tourists stabbed to death at a hotel in the popular Red Sea resort of Hurghada last year.
