Police say that three people were shot critically and two were injured on the Stevenson Expressway late Friday on the southside of Chicago.
At around 11:30 PM, five people were in a vehicle which police say was heading south on Interstate 55 near the I-94 interchange, when gunfire was exchanged, according to Illinois State Police.
Officers say that the origins of the shots remain unknown, but that one person was shot in the abdomen and leg, and another was shot in the hand. The third gunshot victim was hit in the neck.
The two others in the vehicle suffered multiple injuries from the shattered glass when the bullets rained down on the car, police said.
Each of the shooting victims were transported to Stroger Hospital, according to paramedics at the scene. Police have yet to announce the age, sex, or ethnicities of the victims or announce any motives for the possible shootings.
The crime will remain under investigation according to authorities as they attempt to determine what caused the shootings early Saturday.
