One never knows when your time on earth is over, as one body builder from Umlazi in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa found out today. Sifiso Lungelo Thabete was attempting to entertain the crowd at a body building event when he decided to do a backflip but ended up landing on his head. The attempt was filmed and put online where viewers mostly mocked him for the failed attempt. Unfortunately, it turned out that Thabete had seriously injured himself and had broken his neck in the fall.
It all started when Thabete began waving his arms and running around the open floor to gain people's attention. He stood in the middle of the floor as onlookers filmed and he attempted to flip backwards, but unfortunately he did not fully rotate. Thabete came down hard on his head putting an enormous amount of force on his neck, breaking it in the fall. At first the video shows him laying motionless after the fall as others rush in to help him. Eventually he rolls onto his back as people come to his aid.
An article from the South African body building magazine, Muscle Evolution, said the bodybuilding community is "shocked and saddened" by the news of Thabete's tragic death. Thabete was a member of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and a Junior World Champion in the IFFBB who won multiple events. Muscle Evolution described him as a man with unbelievable muscle size and maturity beyond his age. His passing is a huge loss to the sport.
