Richard Spencer to Israel: 'I'm a White Zionist'

Well, folks, it appears that Richard Spencer has finally shown his true colors. (Spoiler alert: they’re blue and white). Yes, it’s true. And if you follow either Miles W. Mathis or myself, you were probably already aware of the fact that Spencer most likely was an agent provocateur of some sort. Forked tongue or not Spencer seems remarkably deft at speaking out of both sides of his mouth. Managing to seem both chummy while still stoking paranoia of right wing Israelis who were tuned in to Channel 2 news when he announced: “Our movement is the future.”

Richard Spencer is no dummy. He manages to stand at such an angle that he can be projected as a clown, a boogieman, a savior, a nuisance, a threat depending on who you are, what you believe (and want to believe) and what you’ve been shown. Alt-Right seems beyond redemption of any sort of re-brand. Alt-lite shows potential to be as dangerous as the left in regards to certain free speech, privacy and other important issues.

<i>Ha’aretz</i> picked up on the double-speak Spencer spews referring to his interview with <i>Ha’aretz</i> after Heil-gate at the Trump rally. In the US liberals saw a wannabe Hitler encouraging Trump supporters to elevate their renegade candidate to Fuhrer status. Meanwhile to the Israeli papers he made sure to mention that he does “respect Israel” and wanted to assure them Israel and Jews have “nothing to fear.”

A couple of interesting paradoxes come up here. First, in calling himself a “White Zionist” Spencer draws the parallel between the border protected ethno-state of Israel to the White Nationalist movement. This is interesting for a couple of reasons. Despite seeming to call for De-Judaification, Spencer displays a classic error common to fallacious white supremacist mindset. “Blacks blame all their problems on us instead of making things better for themselves,” all the while complaining everything from fluoridation to the cable going out on “the Jew.”

Another interesting paradox Spencer calls his proposed white ethno-state, Altneuland, meaning an old, new country. This is coincidentally (or incidentally rather) the same term that Theodore Herzl, the father of Zionism used for his proposed ethno-state in historical Palestine.

Spencer does admit that consolidation of Jewish power is proportionally unbalanced. This idea is not so controversial however. Joel Stein wrote in the LA Times, of the age old question,

In the end, in a lot of ways, Richard Spencer seems to be all things to all people. In the end, he may be no more than a projected image onto a theatre’s screen, no more real than the spook that he very well may be.
